MOHALI: In a shocking incident exposing the deteriorating law and order situation in the region, an Instamart delivery executive was swarmed and robbed by a gang in broad daylight yesterday.
The incident took place between 12:00 PM and 12:15 PM right in front of the local liquor vend (theka) and an electronic showroom in Jhampur, an area falling under the strict jurisdiction of the Balongi Police Station.
According to eyewitnesses and emerging video footage, the delivery agent—wearing his official Instamart uniform—was suddenly cornered by a group of four to five unidentified individuals. The assailants aggressively assaulted the delivery agent, snatching his personal belongings. Before fleeing the scene, the perpetrators also stole the keys to his motorcycle, leaving the victim stranded on the road.
CCTV footage captured shortly after the crime shows the suspects quickly moving away from the scene to the left. Three of the individuals can be seen fleeing together on a single motorcycle, while a fourth accomplice fled on a Honda Activa scooter.
Rising Drug Grievance in Local Neighborhoods
The brazen daytime robbery has sparked widespread outrage and fear among Jhampur residents, who claim that the local area is becoming increasingly unsafe. Eyewitnesses described the attackers as local drug addicts, commonly referred to as ganjedi types.
Locals allege that a house in the immediate vicinity is serving as an active hub for illegal ganja (cannabis) supply, drawing criminal elements to the neighborhood daily. Residents are now demanding immediate, targeted patrolling by the Balongi Police, an urgent investigation into the robbery using the available video evidence, and a strict crackdown on the illegal narcotics ring operating in the residential area.
